HYDERABAD, Sept 18: Provincial Election Commissioner Chaudhry Qamaruzzaman has said that out of 1.3 million registration forms distributed for preparation of computerised voter lists, 1.2 million completed forms have been returned to the commission.

He said that 85 per cent work had been completed and the remaining would be completed by September 30.

Speaking at a meeting of assistant election commissioners of the region at the office of the deputy election commissioner on Monday, he said that the work had to be completed by September 11 but the date for completing forms had been extended upto September 30 due to heavy rains.

He said that it would be for the first time in history that computerised voter lists would be published after verification by Nadra to ensure transparency in future elections.

He said that computerised voter lists would form the basis of future general and local bodies’ elections.

He said that a task force of 100 people had been formed in Karachi to redress grievances of people.

He said that task forces each comprising 25 people would also be formed in regional headquarters within next few days.

He said that voter lists would be made public on May 30, 2007 for inclusion of omitted names and correction of names.

Referring to complaints of people about registration, he said that the election staff had far more complaints as many a citizen did not return completed forms even after several visits and some even delivered incomplete forms.

He said that the election commission was considering to extend the last date as the situation in Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas was not normal.
