HYDERABAD, Sept 20: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said on Wednesday that the district had started cleaning chocked sewerage lines and resumed work on the repair of damaged roads.

Talking to people during visits to different parts of Latifabad, he said that 99 per cent of stagnating rainwater had been drained out and a massive cleanliness campaign had been launched to remove garbage from the roads, lanes and streets.

He said that in light of lessons learnt from the recent heavy rains, the platforms of pumping machines would be raised. Six out of eight pumping stations submerged and rendered useless in the rains.

The nazim said that the pumps’ drainage capacity had also been increased to drain out remaining water from unit No2 of Latifabad and other low-lying areas.

Discussions were going on with the engineers whether the drains dug on emergency basis could be used on permanent basis, he said.

The nazim also visited many rain-affected localities of Qasimabad taluka and directed the installation of 200 kva transformer near Zeeshan pumping station as well as two more pumping machines of 40 and 25 horse power.

Wasa Managing Director Kafeel Ahmed, project director of Water Supply and Sewerage, Abdul Malik Khatri, and other officials accompanied the nazim during his visit.
