Contaminated water in areas of Sahiwal

SAHIWAL, Sept 20: Dirty water is mixing in the potable water supply lines in the Quaid-i-Azam Colony, Nawab Colony and the Church Road.

Residents of these areas said the decades old water supply lines were rusted and broken at many places. The sewerage water mixed into clean water. The agencies concerned have failed to replace the water supply lines.

Women and children were seen on Wednesday fetching water from other areas. The Municipal Committee water lorries were incapacitated to meet the demand of the residents.

Meanwhile, the tehsil nazim on Tuesday said in a public meeting that the work on the chief minister’s package would start soon. Under the package, old and rusted water supply lines would be replaced with new ones.

SENTENCED: Special anti-corruption judge on Wednesday handed down three years’ rigorous imprisonment and Rs10,000 fine to the reader of the deputy collector of the irrigation department for accepting Rs5,000 bribe.

Reader Muhammad Amin on April 16, 2004, received Rs5,000 from Ghulam Muhammad. He was caught red handed while accepting bribe.

NARCOTICS: The additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday handed down five years’ rigorous imprisonment and Rs50,000 fine to a narcotics trader.

Mohsin Ali of Chak 84/5-L was caught by Fateh Sher police with two kilograms of hashish three years ago.

On default in payment of fine, he would have to undergo six months’ rigorous imprisonment.
