HYDERABAD, Sept 27: Pakistan People’s Party leader Syed Naveed Qamar on Wednesday accused the ruling party and the administration of Tando Mohammad Khan district of victimising PPP workers, an act which he said, was tantamount to pre-poll rigging with general elections just months away.

Mr Qamar who is PPP’s deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly called the ruling Pakistan Muslim League and the district administration, including the DCO and the DPO, two sides of the same coin.

He was speaking at a news conference at the local press club with former provincial minister Syed Mohsin Shah Bukhari and PPP district president Haji Mohammad Ameen Lakho.

He said that the naib nazim of the union council-1 of Tando Mohammad Khan, Shafique Bhatti, who belonged to the Awam Dost Panel, and his two brothers were implicated in false cases.

Police were conducting raids on their homes and harassing their families, he said. Mr Bhatti and his brothers had already obtained bail before arrest.

Only two days back a judge raided Tando Mohammad Khan police station, found several persons detained there without any charges and without any record and directed the SHO to appear in court, he said.

Mr Qamar said that corruption and land grabbing had become order of the day in the district and the sale deeds of properties which had been executed years ago were being revoked.

He said that it was the duty of anti-corruption establishment and NAB to probe into the corruption in the district but unfortunately the two departments too were busy victimising opposition leaders.

He urged the chief secretary and IG of police to take notice of the alleged highhandedness of district administration and district police.

Former provincial minister, Mohsin Shah Bukhari, alleged that the party supporters were being dispossessed of their shops, lands and houses.

The district administration and the police were not only harassing the workers of PPP but also the workers of other opposition parties, he said.

The district president of PPP, Haji Mohammad Ameen Lakho, said that the harassment of opposition parties workers started the day the Tando Muhammad Khan was made a new district.
