DADU, Oct 1: Activists of political parties and social workers held a rally here on Sunday in protest against high prices of fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat.

The rally was organised by the Young Citizens Welfare Association.

Ramzan Khushik, Qaim Ali Siyal, Mouladad Lund, Gul Mohammad Joyo, Gul Sher Solangi, Amin Jamali and Ghulam Rasool Soomro led the rally.

The leaders said that shopkeepers and vendors were charging more for vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and other edibles than the prices fixed by the government, making it almost impossible for the poor to buy them.

They appealed to the Sindh chief minister to order departments concerned to check the increase in prices and said that hotel owners with connections in right places kept their businesses open during fasting hours in blatant violation of relevant laws.

Meanwhile, special magistrate and DDO (revenue) Ghaffar Soomro, acting on people’s growing complaints, raided vegetables, fruits and fish shops and arrested 15 men for overcharging.

He sent Mohammad Hassan, Mohammad Safar, Imdad Ali, Shafi Mohammad and Dhani Bux to jail and released 10 others after imposing on them Rs3,400 fine.

INJURED: Six villagers sustained injuries when two groups clashed with each other over a matrimonial issue in Shah Shakar Ganj village of Sehwan taluka on Sunday.

The injured identified as Pir Bux Rind, Ramzan, Hakim, Ahmed Rind, Manzoor and Mohammad Saleh were admitted to Bhan Syedabad hospital in critical condition.

BODY FOUND: Sehwan police found the body of a 24-year-old man in Aral wah near Sehwan town on Sunday and handed it over to Edhi Foundation.

The deceased was identified as Zafar Iqbal, son of Chaudhry Nazeer Ahmed, resident of Sahiwal district.
