WB team calls on Sukkur nazim

SUKKUR, Oct 2: A two-member World Bank delegation of civil service reforms specialists consisting of Martyn Ambury and Jaipa Patel called on the Sukkur district nazim here on Monday.

According to an official press statement issued on Monday, the district nazim briefed them on the history, culture, traditions of Sukkur district and the performance of different district government departments and major projects being carried out by the federal and provincial governments and donor agencies in various sectors in the district.

He also briefed the members about the devolution plan, problems and hindrances being faced by the district government due to some technical reasons.

He informed them that the local government, rural development and public health engineering departments had not been completely devolved so far and for that reason some problems were being faced by the district government. Besides this, the recruitment of staff had been stopped due to a ban on government jobs, which had badly affected the over all performance of departments and efficiency in the professional skill.

The district nazim also apprised team members that Sukkur district was rich in cultural heritage and the district government was spending a considerable amount on rehabilitation, conservation and preservation of historical as well as archaeological sites in the district in order to attract tourists in the area.

The delegation also held separate meetings with taluka municipal administrations and all executive district officers working in the district and discussed with them matters relating to their respective areas of responsibilities.
