HYDERABAD, Oct 5: A meeting of the special selection board held on Wednesday recommended that five professors of the University of Sindh be promoted to BPS-21.

The meeting was held at the Governor’s House in Karachi under the chairmanship of the vice-chancellor of the University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.

The meeting recommended the names of senior professors, Dr Ubedullah M. Abassi, Dr M. Usman Memon (Chemistry), Dr Sultan Mahmood Leghari (Freshwater Biology and Fisheries), Dr Anwar Ali Shah, Dean of Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, and Dr Mohammad Yar Khuhawar, Dean of Faculty of Natural Sciences to the university syndicate for award of BPS-21.

Mr Saleem Khan, Principal Secretary to the Governor of Sindh, Mr M. Hassan Bhutto, chairman, Sindh Public Service Commission, and Mr Sabhago Khan Jatoi, l Secretary of Education, attended the meeting.

The recommendations of the special selection board will be placed before the university syndicate in its next meeting.

LLM RESULT: The Controller of Examinations of the University of Sindh here on Wednesday announced the result of LLM (Previous) annual examination 2006.

According to result, 49 candidates out of 53 have been declared successful in all the subjects while three candidates having seat numbers 08, 16 and 22 have been declared fail in various subjects.

MUET: The 20th meeting of the Management Review Committee ISO-9000, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, was held in the campus on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput presided over the meeting.

The meeting discussed and reviewed the performance of all academic and administrative sections to ensure conformity of all operations as per standards of ISO-9001:2000 of the Quality Management System.

The meeting was attended by the Registrar/Management Representative (M.R. ISO-9000), deans, Project Director, Director Finance, Director Planning & Development and all chairmen, directors and sectional heads of the university.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput expressed satisfaction over the ranking of the MUET as the best Engineering University of Sindh and 5th in Pakistan.

DATE EXTENDED: The principal of the Government College of Commercial Education, Qasimabad, on Thursday announced that last date for admission in B.Com-I (1st year commerce) at the Government College of Education in Commercial Practices, Qasimabad, has been extended upto October 31. Desirous candidates having matric certificate, have been advised to contact the college during morning hours.

PRICE CHECKING: DDOs of Revenue and Mukhtiarkars of Hyderabad district who have been designated as Special Judicial Magistrate have expedited price checking through surprise visits at different markets to control price hike and enforce the Ehtram-e-Ramazan Ordinance.

According to details, on October 4, the DDO Revenue, Qasimabad, has challaned 15 shopkeepers on account of charging high prices and recovered total fine of Rs3,700 from them.

Similarly, the Mukhtiarkar of Latifabad has challaned 6 shopkeepers and recovered fine of Rs6,600, the Mukhtiarkar of Qasimabad booked 9 shopkeepers with fine of Rs2,100, and the Mukhtiarkar Estate booked 20 shopkeepers and recovered fine of Rs14,200 under the Price Control Act while the Mukhtiarkar of City booked 10 shopkeepers and recovered fine of Rs3,600 under the Price Control Act and also challaned 13 persons and recovered fine of Rs3,250 under the Ehtram-e-Ramazan Ordinance.
