SUKKUR, Oct 13: An FIA team has shifted to Sukkur a group of 111 deportees from Muscat belonging to the region.

According to FIA sources, 600 people were deported from Muscat after their release from different jails.

They had been jailed for having illegally entered into the country.

The FIA sources said that 200 people managed to escape from custody soon after their arrival at the Karachi port.

They included 34 from the Sukkur region.

They said that a team of FIA, headed by sub-inspector Farooq Tunio, shifted 111 people from Karachi to Sukkur by the Sukkur Express.

While they were being taken from the Sukkur railway station to the RPO office, they scuffled with the FIA personnel and SI Farooq Tunio, ASI Waseem and constable Mahi Khan were injured.

The deportees were shifted to the Site police station and would be produced before the judicial magistrate on Saturday.

The FIA police said that the deported men belonged to Shahdadkot, Larkana, Qambar, Shikarpur, Ghotki, and Jacobabad.

NAZIM: District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that with the assistance and cooperation of private health institutions, positive changes could be noticed in the health sector.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a free medical camp at Darul-Shifa Hospital here on Friday, he said with the concerted efforts of the health department, WHO and other agencies, Sukkur had been declared as a polio-free district and efforts were being made by the district government to provide health facilities to the people even at remote areas.

He said that setting up of the Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College in Sukkur was the result of personal interest evinced by President General Pervez Musharraf and former Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar.

FAVOURITISM: A group of contractors has accused officials of the building department of favouritism and nepotism while issuing tenders for different projects.

A number of contractors including, Jawed Jatoi, Wazir Ali and Syed Jawad Shah, staged a protest demonstration in front of the office of the building department and shouted slogans against the officials.

They said that the tenders for works were being issued to their near and dear ones in violation of set procedure.

They demanded that high ups should take notice of highhandedness of the officials of the building department and order cancellation of tenders issued without adopting the proper procedure.

PROBE: The chairman of the Board of Governors of Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College Hospital, Niaz Ahmed Dahar, has formed a four-member subcommittee to ensure transparency in the use of Zakat and Bait-ul-Mal funds.

The subcommittee headed by Additional Civil Surgeon Dr Muhammad Iqbal Pathan with members, Senior Paediatrician Dr Abdul Majeed Memon, Dermatologist Dr Zubair Ahmed Memon and Senior Medical Officer Dr Rafiq Kamangar would ensure provision of health care facilities in the hospital and keep an eye on the usage of funds.

The head of the subcommittee would submit his suggestions to the chairman once a week on every Saturday, said an official handout.
