SUKKUR, Oct 15: The body of a married woman, Rasheeda Channa, was found in the graveyard of Dhani Bux Channa village near Thull early on Sunday morning.

She was kidnapped by armed men from the Civil Lines police area about 20 days ago.

Rasheeda Channa had married one Dur Mohammad Channa, an ASI posted at the civil lines police station Jacobabad six months ago without the consent of her relatives who were not happy with the marriage.

She was kidnapped and her husband lodged an FIR with the Civil Lines police station naming Saleem Unnar and others as the accused. The police had arrested Saleem Unnar.

The body was taken to a local hospital by the area police.

Police claimed that she had been strangulated to death.

Later, on information provided by Saleem, police picked up Ramzan Lashari and Sultan Lashari. Further investigation was underway.

Jirga: A jirga held in Khalidabad on Saturday found Aslam Leghari, a farmer SHO of Ubauro, guilty of killing an innocent villager, Liaqat Gabole, in a fake encounter near Mirpur Mathelo about two months ago and fined on him Rs400,000, sources close the jirga said.

The jirga, jointly presided over by State Minister for Defence Khalid Ahmed Lund and Sindh Irrigation Minister Nadir Akmal Leghari, gave its verdict after hearing the two parties at length, said the sources.

Mr Aslam Leghari paid Rs50,000 on the spot and promised to pay up the remaining amount within 15 days.

On August 17, the former SHO shot Liaqat Gabole dead when he ignored his signal to stop near Mirpur Mathelo.

Afterwards, he registered an FIR charging that the diseased was a hardened criminal who was killed in an encounter with police.

When asked, the ministers did not deny the jirga was held and saying it was an effort to reconcile the two groups of people who had been on the verge of starting a revenge cycle.

The jirga was attended by more than 100 people from Gabole and Leghari people. Yasin Gabole, Khalil Ahmed Gabole and Abdul Razzaq represented their group while Jamal Leghari and others represented Legharis.
