KARACHI, Oct 16: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that a majority of 98 per cent poor people are joining the caravan of MQM for their emancipation and for the restoration of true democratic dispensation in the country.

He expressed his confidence that the people’s wrath would soon swallow the feudal clique which had been exploiting this country for decades together.

Mr Hussain was speaking at a meeting held at the MQM’s international secretariat in London on Monday.

The meeting was attended by members of the MQM coordination committee, including Dr Imran Farooq (convenor), Mr Mohammad Anwar and Mustafa Azizabadi, the party’s chief organiser in Punjab Iftekhar Randhawa, and MQM South Africa Unit representatives, besides MNAs and MPAs.

Mr Hussain said that during the past 59 years, the poor people of Punjab had been supporting various political and religious parties which had so far failed to solve their problems. These parties, he alleged, had been using their innocent and poor supporters in entrenching the exploitative system. When the chips were down, these agent provocateurs did not stand their ground and abandoned the poor people, he added.

The MQM chief expressed his confidence that the poor people of Punjab would now play a key role in the banishment of feudalism from Punjab by becoming part of the MQM’s vanguard in that province.

He said that instead of responding to provocative allegations, the party cadre should concentrate on spreading the MQM message explaining its manifesto among the masses.

LIAQUAT’S ASSASSINATION: Altaf Hussain accused jagirdars, whom he described as agents of colonial masters, of being involved in the assassination of Pakistan’s first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan.

In his statement issued on the 55th death anniversary of Khan Liaquat Ali Khan on Monday, Mr Hussain said that owing to these agents’ complicity in the conspiracy, the mystery behind the assassination could not be solved.

He said Liaquat Ali Khan was a true democrat who strived against feudal system. “That’s why the elements who had been serving the colonial masters and had become owners of big land holdings usurped powers after his assassination.”

He said that since the creation of Pakistan, this two per cent minority had been subjugating the poor and downtrodden of the country.

Mr Hussain said that very soon, the MQM would demolish the exploitative system because the party’s message was now being well received in all parts of the country as well as the AJK.

ACCOUNTABILITY: A member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s coordination committee, Salim Shahzad, has said that those PML-Q leaders and office-bearers found involved in criminal activities would be brought to justice.

In a statement issued from the MQM’s international secretariat in London, Mr Shahzad said that when 98 per cent poor people of the country would be empowered and their Haq Parast leaders would be at the helm of the country’s affairs, investigations would be conducted and those PML-Q leaders and office-bearers found involved in criminal activities would be given exemplary punishment.

His statement is seen as continuation of the verbal bout between the MQM and the PML-Q that has triggered owing to the sensitivity of the Punjab politics where the MQM is trying to get a foothold, inviting wrath of certain feudal lords of Punjab.
