Kashif excels in Ramazan hockey

KARACHI, Oct 19: Gulfaraz XI and Hameed XI overcame their respective rivals to set up a final date in the Ramazan Champions Trophy hockey tournament at UBL Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Kashif Bhopali’a hat-trick helped Gulfaraz XI overpower Zubair XI 5-3.

The losers started with a Mansoor Sheikh goal in the 10th minute which was equalised by Kashif six minutes later. Kashif grabbed his second in the 23rd minute only to see Asif Mahmood cancelling out his effort in five minutes later.

Ishtiaq Mobeen put Zubair XI ahead with a 36th-minute strike before Kashif completed his treble in the 40th minute and netted for his fourth in the 46th minute. Owais Khan scored the fifth when he struck in the 57th minute.

In the other semifinal, Hameed XI edged past Zafar XI 3-2.

Although losing side got off to a confident start with a Rizwan Khan goal in the 11th minute, the winners fought back to score the leveller through Kashif Jawwad in the 20th minute.

Sameer made it 3-1 for the winners when he scored back-to-back goals in the 38th and 39th minute. Haider Hussain reduced the margin in the 58th minute but Zafar XI failed to equalise.
