ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: Pakistan's main hope Shahid Zaman was beaten by compatriot Shamsul Islam while another Pakistani Farhan Mehboob ousted his Egyptian rival on the opening day of main draw of CAS International Squash Championship at Mushaf Mir Squash Complex on Friday.

Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Mirza Zafar Hussain, formally inaugurated the US$25,000 championship in which world no. 27 Borja Golan of Spain is the top seed.

Shamsul Islam knocked out fellow player Shahid Zaman in just 20 minutes, winning in straight sets 11-10, 11-2, 11-8.

Farhan was also in excellent form, beating Omer Abdul Aziz of Egypt by 11-5, 11-7, 11- 6. Another Egyptian Omer Masaad overcame plucky Pakistan’s Majid Khan in full five sets with the game lasting 63 minutes. The Egyptian won 11-7, 11-8, 2-11, 9-11 and 11-7.

Top seed Borja Golan of Spain beat world no. 64 Aaron Frankcomb of Australia 11-5, 11-6, 11-1 in 28 minutes.The final of the championship will be played on Monday.—APP
