HYDERABAD, Nov 13: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the departments concerned to immediately remove building material, debris and encroachments from the sidewalks and roads and give the city a beautiful look by planting trees.

Presiding over a meeting on the city’s beautification on Saturday he said that discarded vehicles, junk, machinery and building material left along the roadsides not only led to traffic jams but also defaced the district’s beautification programme.

He directed the building control department to ensure that the building material of under construction multi-storey buildings was not dumped on the roads and there were no encroachments on the footpaths.

The nazim appealed to people to cooperate with the district government in this regard.

Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani, EDO of revenue and EDO of works, director of planning and development of HDA, project director of beautification and assistant director for removal of encroachments among others attended the meeting.

NAIB NAZIM: District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput who is also the convenor of district council has directed the officers concerned to complete the ongoing development works on laying sewers in the city within shortest possible time.

Inspecting the ongoing work on laying 42 inches dia Tulsidas sewer and Risala Road sewer on Sunday Mr Rajput said that "The district government requests patience and cooperation from people as investment of billions of rupees is involved in the projects for providing better drainage and communication facilities to them."

On his visit to Qadamgah Station Road, the naib nazim directed the consultants, contractors and WASA to complete the ongoing work within two to three weeks.Earlier, Mr Rajput visited GTC ground and cantonment graveyard and directed the managing director of WASA to drain out stagnating water on the ground within 15 days.

Though the two sites belonged to the cantonment board the district government was fully cooperating with the board in draining out the rainwater, he said.

Chairman of works committee Munawar Khan, chairman of coordination committee Rashid Khan, nazims of different union councils and MD of WASA accompanied the naib nazim on his visit.

MUET: The Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) organised a six-day Pilot English Advance Communication and Study Skills Course at English Language Centre in collaboration with English Language National Committee of Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday.

Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Pathan thanked HEC for allowing the university to organise the project and urged the participants to get maximum benefit from the programme.

Director of English Language Centre Prof M Hassan Bodlo said that intensive reading with effective comprehension and developing writing skills were the most needed tools for research.

A total of 30 teachers from different departments of the university are attending the project which will run until November 18.

EXAMINATIONS: Examinations for the second semester of all the disciplines started at Allama I. I. Kazi Campus of the University of Sindh on Monday in a disciplined manner in which 18,000 students appeared.

The university had made tight security arrangements at 55 examination centres in set up in the campus.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui paid a surprise visit to inspect the arrangements made at the centres. He was accompanied by deans of concerned faculties, Registrar M. Saleh Rajar and Controller of Examinations Dr. Parvez Ahmed Pathan.

The university has decided that Allama I. I. Kazi Central Library will remain open till 10.00 pm during all the working days. On Sundays it will be open from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm during examinations.
