THATTA, Feb 15: A meeting of Mehar Shah union council convened by Haider Hussain Shoro decided in principle to tender en masse resignations if the powers to run the union council were not delegated to it till Mar 12.

The meeting took exception to unilateral decisions by Thatta district government, non-release of funds, denial of development schemes and giving no importance to the decisions taken by the union council.

The meeting warned that the union council comprising 18 members would resign if it remained deprived of powers.

The session as attended by Shams Shoro, Naib Nazim, Haji Sardar Shoro, Gul Mohammad Parehri, Moomal, Mai Hawa, Haji Ali Soomro, Allah Dino Bukero and others.

CRACKDOWN: The Mirpur Bathoro police have arrested 12 activists of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) including its deputy general secretary Mohammad Rahmoon for taking out a procession to protest the retrenchment of workers from Shah Murad Sugar Mills and arrest of the party chairman on Friday.

The police resorted to batoncharge on the participants of the peaceful procession which after marching through the main thoroughfares of Mirpur Bathoro was about to end at the bus terminal.

Some activists sustained minor injuries in the baton-charge by the police.

The police were hunting for other activists prior to registration of an FIR, sources in the police said.

Those arrested by Mirpur Bathoro police include Aslam Khairpuri, president, Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz, Thatta district, Amin Abbasi, Gul Mohammad Soomro, Ibrahim Palijo, Ghafoor Chang, Irshad Dars, Ghulam Nabi Palijo, Taslim Arif Memon, Anwar Memon and others.
