HYDERABAD, Nov 21: Leaders and activists of various political parties staged a protest demonstration outside the local press club on the call of an All Parties Conference (APC) convened by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F against sale of two islands of Sindh here on Tuesday.

They said that Sindh’s islands were being sold by the federal government which had no authority to do that and added that earlier mineral and water resources of Sindh had been usurped.

They alleged that such steps were illegal and unconstitutional which would be effectively resisted tooth and nail. They said that intellectuals, social activists, political and nationalist parties would raise voice and launch struggle against the sale of Sindh’s islands.

LARKANA: Activists of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) and Sindh Tarqqi Pasand Party (STPP) jointly staged a procession on Tuesday in potest against the sale of Sindh’s islands.

STPP’s Gulzar Soomro and JUI’s Gul Inqlabi led the procession, which marched on the main roads of the city before assembling at Jinnah Bagh.

The leaders said that the federal government had no right to sell Sindh’s islands and accused the Sindh government of showing weakness. The sale would deprive the islands’ fishermen and old inhabitants of their rights, they charged.

They opposed the proposed construction of Kalabagh dam which they believed would ruin Sindh and also criticised the government for Bajaur bombardment.

Later, the participants staged a demonstration outside the local press club.

Nawabshah: Activists of the MMA took out a rally protesting against the Women's Rights Bill and sale of islands to foreign companies in Nawabshah on Tuesday.

The rally started from the Allahwali Masjid and culminated at the local press club. Protesters were carrying placards, banners and party flags and were also chanting slogans.

Sindh MMA president Maulana Asadullah Bhutto said that the Women's Right Bill had no connection or link with women’s rights and Islam. He said that a committee of Ulema constituted by the government and other Ulema had also rejected the bill and termed it un-Islamic.

Maulana Hizbullah Khoso, Suroor Ahmed Qureshi, Ameer Din Burdi and others also spoke on the occasion.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Activists of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) staged on Tuesday a rally to protest against the sale of Sindh’s two islands to a foreign firm.
