HYDERABAD, Nov 26: Capacity-building of tapedars and revenue officials was needed to ensure transparency in record keeping and early disposal of land-related problems, said the director-general of Sindh Local Government Academy (SLGA) of Tandojam Ibrahim Qureshi.

Addressing a ceremony for awarding certificates to tapedars on completion of a 15-day special training course jointly organised by the SLGA and revenue department, Mr Qureshi said that tapedars’ capacity-building would not only help ensure transparency in record keeping of rights but it would also help avert disputes by providing speedy justice.

The tapedars were trained in Goth Abad Scheme, Village Farm, Land Revenue Act, Record of Rights and other related matters during the 15-day course, he said.

He advised that more tapedars and revenue officials should be provided similar training to ensure uniformity in work attitude. The tapedars being recovery workers had an important role to play in revenue collection, therefore, the organisers of skill development programmes should give them preference over other government officials, he said.

Goth Abad Scheme Project Director Jabbar Abbasi said that his organisation was not only engaged in preserving the record of rights but also helped develop villages on the pattern of towns. The tapedars through their expertise could play a vital role in the development of rural areas, he said.
