HYDERABAD, Dec 1: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal organised demonstrations across Sindh on Friday in protest against detention of MMA activists, use of baton charge and registration of cases by the Punjab police during a protest rally.
They said that the protest movement would continue against the government.
Activists of the MMA held a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club after Friday prayers.
They raised slogans against the government.
MNA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, Abdul Waheed Qureshi, Sheikh Shaukat, Ibrahim Sheikh and Moazzam Ali Naqvi spoke on the occasion.
The MNA said that the people have lost confidence in the Council of Islamic Ideology after its members called on the president.
He said that five members had already resigned from the council in protest against the passage of Women’s Rights Protection (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill by parliament.
He said that the present members of the CII did not represent any particular sect of the country and by taking dictation from presidency the CII had lost their credibility.
He said that one man’s rule in the country had led to price hike and General Pervez Musharraf had tried to amend Hudood Allah.
He said that the government’s only scholar, Noorul Haq Qadir, had also written his note of dissent and he did not attend the session like ruling party’s 46 members, including a former president and a former prime minister.
He said that by taking police action against participants of a rally, the government had proved that it did not believe in democracy.
He said that cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act, arrests and detention could not break spirit of movement.
SUKKUR: Activists of the Jamaat-i-Islami (women wing) took out a procession and held a demonstration outside the press club on Friday.
Aisha Zaheer and Mairaj Fatima led the protestors.
They raised slogans against the government and reached the press club where they staged a protest demonstration.
The activists carried banners and placard against the passage of women’s protection bill.
The leaders claimed that the bill was aimed at to open venues to luxury for the rulers.
They said that US President Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair congratulated the government over the passage of the bill which had exposed its intentions.
They said that if the bill was according to Islam then the government would have been congratulated by the rulers of Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries.
Meanwhile, protest day was observed in the city and protest demonstration was held in front of the press club on the appeal of MMA leader Qazi Hussain Ahmed.
The protestors gathered outside the press club and held a demonstration.
The leaders demanded that the MMA leadership should resign from the parliament immediately. Terming president Musharraf responsible for the genocide of innocent Muslims in Bajaur and Waziristan, they said that he would not be allowed to kill the innocent.
SHIKARPUR: A procession was taken out here on Friday evening.
Maulana Sadaruddin Mahar, Abdul Qadir Abro advocate, Maulvi Mehmood Illahi Hakro, Maulana Sher Mohammad Hakro, Wali Mohammad Brohi, Shahid Hussain Shaikh and Abdul Sami led the protestors.
The rally started from the Madressah Furqania and terminated at Lakhi Gate tower chowk after staging a demonstration there.
The leaders condemned baton charge on MMA leaders and lodging false FIRs against them under the Anti-terrorism Act.
They demanded that the government should withdraw cases against the MMA activists.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Activists of the MMA held a demonstration outside the press club.
The protesters raised slogans against the Punjab government.
They condemned the arrest of MMA leaders in Lahore and baton charge on MMA activists.
DADU: The MMA activists staged a protest against the Hudood Law and arrest of MMA leaders and workers in Punjab.
MMA leaders Hafiz Hajan Leghari and Manzoor Soomro led the protestors.
MIRPURKHAS: Protest demonstration was held by MMA Mirpurkhas outside the Madina Masjid after Friday prayers.
The protestors carried banners and placards.
They raised slogans against the government and demanded immediate release of the leaders and workers.
Sindh Jamaat-i-Islami Naib Ameer Dr Mumtaz Memon, Mirpurkhas JI Ameer Ahsan Illahi Mughal and MMA leader Noor Mohammed termed the women rights bill fraud and an effort of rulers to impress the USA.
They said that the people would not allow imposition of illegal Islamic laws in the country.
They said the government policies and accused that rulers were implementing the directives of the USA.
