SWABI, Dec 1: Speakers at a meeting here on Friday criticised the parliamentarians for ignoring the education sector, saying that they mostly spent funds on activities other than education in their constituencies.

The parliamentarians spent huge funds on development schemes but they failed to give due attention to the improvement of the education sector, the speakers said at the meeting held by the Pakistan Coalition for Education on budgetary allocation for the education sector.

One speaker said increased spending on the education sector would show positive results.

Others said the MNAs and MPAs received funds every year but the amount was mainly spent on construction. They said that a portion of the funds should be used for improving the conditions in the educational institutions.

District coordinator of the coalition Amjid Ali said the district government had allocated only 0.28 per cent of its budget for education.
