LAHORE, Dec 7: The Karachi Intermediate Board (KIB) edged out the Karachi Secondary Board 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Pakistan Board Football Championship at the Railways Stadium, Garhi Shahue.

Earlier, Mardan moved into the last eight, defeating Bahawalpur 5-4 on tie-breaker after the scoreline remained 1-1 at full time.

The all-Karachi affair produced excitement. The winners opened the scoring through Adil Khan’s 39th-minute goal but his namesake Adil Ahmed drew level for the Secondary Board five minutes into the second session. The all-important goal was scored by striker Saeed Ahmed six minutes from time. The KIB will take on Gujranwala in the quarter-finals.

In the match between Mardan and Bahawalpur, Mardan took the lead in the 19th minute following a melee and the ball was tucked in by winger Umar Farooq.

Bahawalpur equalised in the 32nd minute through Jahangir Ashraf. It was 1-1 at the breather and the second half remained barren.

The tie-breaker also remained very close but finally Mardan clinched the game 5-4.
