HYDERABAD, Dec 9: Former deputy speaker of the Sindh Assembly Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah has announced the foundation of a new party with the nomenclature of the "Sindh United Party."

The announcement was made at the party convention held at his residence in Jamshoro on Saturday. A large number of political activists and nationalists attended the meeting.

Briefing newsmen, Mr Shah said that he had toured the entire length and breadth of the province to mobilise public opinion for a new party keeping in view the needs of Sindh. He made it clear that all those who believed in constitutional rights of Sindh would be welcomed in the party whose objective was to do politics at the national level.

He criticised the existing parties for hollow slogans and failing to safeguard rights of Sindh.

He criticised the Sindh Democratic Alliance for failing to achieve its aims and objects.

Answering a question, he said the main objective of the new party was to represent the people of Sindh in parliament and to struggle for provincial autonomy.

He said the new party will also ensure the protection of Sindh's geographical frontiers and the genuine and democratic rights of the Sindhi nation.

He said a five-member executive committee comprising Syed Mehar Ali Shah, Mir Hyder Talpur, Ismail Wassan, Syed Ghulam Shah and Pir Khaleel Jan Sarhandi was also constituted.—Bureau Report
