LAHORE, Dec 16: At least 37 students of a private college were injured when a demarcation wall of the Alhamra Cultural Complex collapsed during a musical event on Saturday evening.

A musical event was organised by the Punjab Group of Colleges, which was participated in by a large number of students.

The function was going on when a demarcation wall collapsed and 37 students were injured.

The injured were taken to the Services Hospital by Rescue 1122 and Edhi ambulances.

The injured included Sami, Asif, Khurram, Umer, Mohsin, Irfan Khalid, Basharat Ashraf, Amir Noor, Asad Ahmed, Abid, Suleman Shaukat, Mohsin Khawar, Jafar Saeed, Sultan Mehmood, Jafar, Usman Siddiqui and Shoaib Umer.

Talking to Dawn, Executive Director of the Lahore Arts Council Asghar Husain Gilani claimed that around 10,000 students were inside the complex against a seating capacity of 4,000. He said a 2.5-foot high demarcation wall along the stairs collapsed owing to overcrowding.

He also claimed that around 2,000 students were outside the complex when the incident had taken place.

Mr Gilani said police were called out but they failed to control the situation.

He claimed that only six students received minor injuries.

However, sources disputed the high number cited by the official.
