ISLAMABAD, Dec 23: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) will train players on scientific principles to regain the country’s past glory in the game.
This was decided at the PSF’s 34th Annual General Meeting, held here on Saturday with Chief of the Air Staff and President PSF Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed in the chair.
The meeting discussed in detail various strategies to improve the standard of squash in Pakistan.
The president PSF, while pointing out the shortcomings, highlighted that besides meeting with coaches and various other people associated with squash, he also had meetings with senior and junior players to acquaint himself with the root causes of the game’s current level which is quite pathetic.
Tanvir said the national players lack the will to acquire mental strength and physical stamina, insisting that the most obvious cause of their failures is the absence of scientific training which is vital for grooming them, adding the scientific approach should be adopted to improve the standard of the game in Pakistan.
The President PSF emphasised to follow the strategy of enhanced focus on developing mental and physical stamina of players through well monitored training by the best coaches.
He added the need to launch a talent hunt for undiscovered players, saying the methodology would be to train extensively the under focused batch of players for a given time chart.—APP
