SWABI, Dec 24: Federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam said on Sunday that the federal government was spending Rs600 million on the provision of Sui gas and electricity to people of Swabi district.

The federal minister was speaking at a gathering at the residence of Swabi District Nazim Shahram Khan.

He said that the federal government had already provided Rs400 million to the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines limited (SNGPL).

It has been planned to provide Sui gas to every nook and corner of the district as was promised by President Gen Pervez Musharraf during his visit to Swabi in January 2006.

He said Rs100 million will be spent of feeders of Shewa, Ismalia, Dandoka, Charbagh, Jaganat, Maini, Marghuz and other areas.

"The government has released this amount to the Wapda for this purpose and there would be no delay in this project," the minister said.

The provision of 50 electricity transformers to different areas of the district was estimated to cost Rs50 million.

The minister announced Rs50 million more for the provision of the electricity to far-flung areas of Swabi district.

He assured the people that the status of the General Post Office would be restored.
