SUKKUR, Dec 29: Hundreds of people, including women and children, held a demonstration on Friday outside the Sukkur press club in protest against police failure to recover a kidnapped boy.

The protesters belonging to Bachal Shah Miani area were led by Dhani Bux Chohan and Bachal Shah Miani union council Nazim Tariq Chohan.

They gathered outside the press club and raised slogans against the police.

They observed a sit-in, blocking the road for two hours.

Dhani Bux Chohan, father of the boy, told newsmen that his son Ali Mohammad, 12, had been kidnapped by some unknown persons last week.

He said that he went to the Abad police station and lodged a formal complaint about the kidnapping, but the police had done nothing to recover the boy.

He said that his another son, Ghous Bux, was also kidnapped 12 years ago, and the police had failed miserably to recover him.

He appealed to the Sindh governor, chief minister, and IG police Sindh to take notice and order early recovery of his sons.

LOADSHEDDING: Hours-long loadshedding by Hesco has paralysed normal life and business activities, including Eid shopping, in the city.

The menace of loadshedding started in the city and adjoining areas last week.

With the power outage, drainage-pumping machines have stopped working.

As a result, sewage water has accumulated on the main roads, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.

The Wapda chairman had announced two-hour loadshedding in the country from January 1, but Hesco authorities has started between 4 and 5-hour-long loadshedding, trampling the orders of the chairman.

When contacted not a single high official was available on phone and their cell phones remain switched off.

Hesco officials said that the loadshedding was being observed under the instructions of the regional control center, Hyderabad.

According to the Wapda chairman half-hour to one-hour loadshedding would be observed in the country with immediate effect.

He made this announcement today on electronic media.
