HYDERABAD, Jan 4: A meeting of the National Assembly standing committee on housing and works is scheduled to be held in Sehwan on January 8 to assess the quality of ongoing development work at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
A member of the committee, MNA Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur had raised the issue of use of inferior quality material in the repair and renovation of the shrine.
Mr Talpur said in a statement issued here on Thursday that tens of millions of rupees were being spent on the construction, repair and renovation of the shrine but sub-standard material was being used in the works.
As a result, he added, rain water had seeped into the shire from its minarets.
He said that he had raised the issue on the floor of the National Assembly and demanded investigation into it.
The MNA said that the devotees of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz would not tolerate any corruption in the ongoing repair and renovation works.
TESTS: The Mehran University of Engineering and Technology on Thursday conducted tests for the posts of lecturers, lab lecturer, executive engineer, assistant engineer, website engineer, sub-engineer and research assistant.
As many as 650 candidates appeared in the tests which were conducted in two shifts under the supervision of Registrar Dr Mohammad Aslam Uqaili and senior professors. Vice-Chancellor, Dr. A. Q. K. Rajput visited the test centres.
Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said that the MUET always gave priority to merit and it was the first university in Pakistan to introduce admission tests for students.
He said that present test was also a step in that direction as it would help select candidates for different vacant seats on the basis of merit. A spokesman of the university said that overage candidates were also allowed to appear in the tests in view of concession in age limit granted by the Sindh chief minister.
