LAHORE, Jan 6: Fine bowling by Junaid Zia and Mohammad Khalil helped lowly-rated Lahore Shalimar to restrict Faisalabad to 256 for nine on the first day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League fixture at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.

Former international Junaid captured four for 37 while left-armer Khalil took four for 48 as Faisalabad struggled from the start. At one stage the visitors were reeling 152 for seven before recovering thanks to an 81-run stand between Ali Raza (56 not out) and Ahmed Hayat (45).

Junaid struck two early blows as Faisalabad, asked to bat first, reached 18 for three. But skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (30) and Naved Latif (30) then added 45 before Junaid bowled Misbah while Khalil sent back Naved in a similar fashion.

However, Ijaz Ahmed Junior (41, four fours), Ahmed Hayat and Ali Raza stabled the innings to some extent. Ali Raza had hit one six and eight boundaries off 73 balls. Ahmed Hayat cracked five strokes to the fence off 104 balls.
