CHITRAL: Crime on the rise in Chitral

CHITRAL, Jan 18: Chitral witnessed a rise in crimes during 2006 as 1,806 cases were registered in the district’s nine police stations against previous year’s 1,585 cases. According to data collected from the office of the district police officer, 11 cases of murder, 20 of attempted zmurder, three of Zina and four cases of kidnapping were registered during 2006. There were 15 cases of burglary and 22 of small thefts. Five vehicles were stolen.

A total of 317 cases were registered under the Hudood Ordinance. Sixty-one people were booked under the Arms Ordinance. Police seized 694 litres of liquor, 166kg of opium, 126kg of charas and seven grams of heroin. Five Kalashnikovs, seven rifles, 17 pistols, 46 shotguns, 1,066 rounds, 2kg of explosive powder and 250 detonators were also seized.
