LARKANA, Jan 19: A joint team constituted by the deputy inspector general, Larkana, comprising senior police officers, has failed to trace and arrest the killers of four members of a family in disregard of the directives issued by the Sindh chief minister.
Those killed, including an infant of Narejo family, were gunned down five months ago in Allahabad locality, Larkana.
This was stated by Bashir Ahmed Narejo, the headman of the village, here on Friday.
The team, constituted in the wake of chief minister house directive on December 14, comprised the Taluka Investigation Officer Larkana, Sahib Shah, TPO Jhali Kalwari of Shikarpur, SHOs’ of Dari police station Larkana and 20-mile police station Shikarpur and supervising investigation officer of Dari police station.
The team was assigned to trace out and arrest the killers nominated in the FIR No. 80/2006 registered with the Dari police station within 15 days.
But the team had failed to pick any of the accused within the stipulated time, complained Mr Narejo.
The victim’s family called on Sindh chief Minister during his recent visit to Larkana and requested arrest of the criminals who were issuing them life threats.
The chief minister had asked the Regional Police Officer, Sukkur, for arresting the accused within five days, Narejo said and added the RPO Sukkur and DIG Larkana, made him to shuttle between DPO and SP investigation offices and his efforts, till today, remained fruitless.
In this connection, an officer of crime branch, Sukkur, Iqbal Junejo, visited Larkana on January 18, and hinted at shifting the case to crime branch, Sukkur.
The victim’s relatives told the police officer that the accused were residing in Shikarpur and “we would be killed if we travelled to Sukkur for pursuance of the case”.
The accused were already issuing them threats and demanding withdrawal of the case.
The accused had killed four members of a family including Hakim Ali Narjio, a police constable, who had refused to drop as witness in an old case.
If justice was not done to the family they would resort to self- immolation on the day of Ashura outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as the DIG’s team had failed to arrest the accused in defiance of the Sindh chief minister’s orders, Mr Narejo said.
