ASI killed in attack near Hangu

HANGU, Jan 21: A police officer was killed and three constables injured when some people opened fire on a police van on the Hangu-Thall road here on Saturday night.

The victim was identified as ASI Mohammad Yasin Khattak, resident of the Eisak Chontra village in Karak district, and the injured policemen Munir Ahmad, Saeedur Rehman and Iftikhar Ali. The attackers fled the area.

Hangu DPO Waqaruddin told Dawn that the police party was on routine patrol duty in the area at about 10pm when it came under attack.

He said that police had heightened search for culprits and they would be brought to book soon.

Later, ASI Yasin was laid to rest with full honours in the Eisak Chontra village.

The funeral prayers were attended by the Hangu DPO, DSP and other police officials.
