KARACHI, Jan 25: Pace bowlers dominated the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League match between Peshawar and Sialkot as 18 wickets fell on the second day at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar on Thursday.

After taking a first-innings lead of 50 runs, Peshawar collapsed to 137 for eight in their second innings when bad light stopped play with 14 overs still remaining in the day’s quota. The hosts hold an overall lead of 187 with two wickets standing.

Medium-pacer Tahir Mughal followed his five for 56 on Wednesday with another four wickets while Kashif Raza claimed two for 43.

On a seaming track the batsmen found the going extremely tough. Only three batsmen —Wajahatullah Wasti (34), Arshad Khan (22 not out) and Mohammad Fayyaz (20) — crossed the 20-run mark for the hosts.

Earlier it was Peshawar’s bowlers turn to torment Sialkot batting line-up. Having resumed at 17 for no loss, the defending champions’ innings capitulated for 150 in reply to 200 made by Peshawar in the first innings.

At one point Sialkot were in danger of being bowled out for double-digit score when the top six batsmen were back in the pavilion for 79 runs. But sensible knocks by Tahir (25) and wicket-keeper Hafiz Khalid (37, seven fours), the pair adding 56 for the seventh wicket brought some respectability to the total.

Fazle Akbar, Riaz Afridi and Janisar Khan took three wickets each.
