Quetta on top against Hyderabad

KARACHI, Feb 2: Quetta were well placed to score their first victory in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League competition after hosts Hyderabad conceded a first-innings lead of 97 runs at the Niaz Stadium on Friday.

The visitors made 290 in reply to Hyderabad’s modest total of 193 thanks to a career-best 105 by their left-handed opener Shoaib Khan after starting the day at 90 for four.

Shoaib’s second century at this level included six fours and one six. Arun Lal batted well to make 52 and put on 97 for the fifth-wicket with Shoaib. There also contributions from Naseer Khan (42) and skipper Faisal Irfan (35).

Left-arm paceman Farhan Ayub was easily pick of Hyderabad’s bowling with figures of six for 76.

Hyderabad were 37 for one in their second innings at stumps.
