HYDERABAD, Feb 3: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Saturday issued show-cause notices to district officer buildings and sub-engineers after receiving monitoring committee report that the contractor in collusion with engineers and supervisors was using substandard material in the construction of roads.
The nazim sent the material for laboratory test and ordered a probe into the matter.
He also took notice of irregularities in the construction of an asphalt road from Haddi Chowk to Comprehensive High School Latifabad and directed that the road should be constructed strictly in accordance with PC-I.
Mr Jamil also directed that payment to the contractor who was allegedly involved in the use of substandard material in the construction of Shah Makki Road should be stopped.
The district works and services monitoring committee headed by Munawar Khan Zai had found after inspection that substandard material was being used in the construction of General Hospital Hali Road and sent a report to the district nazim.
COMPENSATION: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil announced a compensation of Rs50,000 for the relatives of 10-year-old Arbab who died and his mother and a brother sustained injuries when a derailed bogie accidentally slipped and fell on their house during track clearance work on Saturday.
He visited the bereaved family and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Seven bogies of 9-up Sialkot-bound Allama Iqbal Express derailed, four of them completely turned on their head, about a kilometre from Hyderabad railway station on Friday. Fifteen passengers had sustained injuries in the accident.
WATER DISCONNECTIONS: The Water and Sanitation Agency on Saturday disconnected water supply to two plazas, Qabool Shah Centre in Khokhar Mohalla and Rabia Square in Gari Khata.
A Wasa spokesman said that the plazas owed the agency Rs70,000 and Rs520,000, respectively and advised all the consumers to clear their dues to avoid disconnection.
DEMO: Relatives of Nayab Detho murdered five days ago staged a demonstration outside the press club and DPO office on Saturday demanding the police immediately arrest the killers nominated in the FIR.
Iftikhar and Ghulam Rasool, relatives of late Nayab, accused Riaz, Sattar and Roshan and accomplices of killing their relative five days ago.
They said that they had filed an FIR at Tandojam police station but police were taking no interest in arresting the accused.
