HYDERABAD, Feb 5: Leaders demanded that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be granted the right of self-determination in accordance with the United Nation’s resolutions and no decision should be taken on the issue without their consent on the occasion of Kashmir Day observed across the province on Monday.

Many national parties and social and trade organisations brought out processions and rallies to express solidarity with their Kashmiris brethren in many districts of the province.

Speaking at a public meeting at Market Chowk, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Sindh President Maulana Asadullah Bhutto criticised Gen Pervez Musharraf for taking a U-turn on Kashmir policy and warned that if Kashmir went to India it would lead to the River Indus drying up.

District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil led a rally from Hyderabad Gymkhana to the press club in which a large number of students, civil society activists and officials of district government participated.

Mr Jamil said in his speech to the rally that Pakistan would continue to support Kashmiris morally and politically. Kashmiris had given tremendous sacrifices during last 60 years for the liberation of their land and their sacrifices would not go in vain.

He deplored the fact that international human rights organisations and world powers had turned a blind eye towards the plight of Kashmiri people.

Speakers at a meeting held by Jamaat-ud-Dawa on Miran Mohammad Shah Road demanded that Kashmiris should be given the right of self-determination.

NAWABSHAH: The district government organised a walk to express solidarity with Kashmiri brethren. The walk led by District Naib Nazim Abdul Haq Jamali was participated by district government officials and hundreds of schoolchildren and scouts.

Activists of Jamaat-i-Islami also staged a rally.

KHAIRPUR: Pakistan Muslim League-N staged a rally express solidarity with Kashmiri brethren. The rally was led by PML-N district president Abdul Majeed Shaikh and ladies wing district president Zeenat Shaikh.

Another rally led by DDO Revenue Munawar Hussain Mahessar and Shaheen Goraya was brought out which was attended by different social organisations.

SHIKARPUR: Jamaat-i-Islami activists staged a rally in the city which was led by District Ameer JI Dr Mehmood Illahi Hakro, Maulvi Sadaruddin Mahar, Abdul Qadir Abro advocate and Mohammad Azad Jokhio.

MIRPURKHAS: Two separate rallies were staged in the city to express solidarity with Kashmiris.

The first rally was led by EDO Education Haji Khan Rahu, while the second was organised by MMA. Moulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi and Moulana Hafeezur Rehman Siyal led the MMA rally.

Different political and social organisations also observed Kashmir Day in Umerkot, Digri, Samaro, Khipro, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Pithoro, Jhuddo, Naukot, Tando Jan Mohammad and Mirwah.

MITHI: A rally was brought out on the occasion of Kashmir Day which was participated by Taluka Naib Nazim Mohammad Siddique Memon, EDO Education Prof Achar Abid and leaders of traders and workers unions.
