ATTOCK, Feb 6: Opposition members in the Attock assembly boycotted the Tuesday’s session to protest against the lack of quorum and absence of the district government officials.
As soon as the session started, opposition member Rana Shaukat Ali Khan pointed out lack of quorum as only 35 members were present in the house. The minimum strength required to hold the proceedings is 53 members.
Mr Rana also expressed concern over the lukewarm attitude of members and government officials towards the scheduled session.
Convener Malik Sameen Khan, after counting the members, postponed the session for 10 minutes. But when the session resumed, the opposition members again raised the quorum issue and said the heads of various departments were also absent. They also sought adjournment of the session.
The convener, however, refused their demand and continued with the session stating that quorum had been achieved. On this, the opposition members staged a walkout and did not return during the proceedings.
In the meantime, the house discussed various affairs of the district government and approved the upgradation of 15 schools, besides the establishment of six new primary schools for boys and girls in Jand and Pindigheb tehsils.
It said the staff of a closed school in Bata village would be shifted to the primary school in Nara village.
