KARACHI, Feb 8: A rollicking partnership of 181 in 170 minutes between skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Naved Latif guided Faisalabad to a strong position against Karachi Harbour on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League match at the National Stadium here on Thursday.

Thanks to the efforts of these two experienced campaigners Faisalabad reached 287 for three in reply to Karachi Harbour first innings total of 366. Naved, who played a solitary Test appearance five years ago, made a commanding 105 while fellow right-hander Misbah was still going strong with 91 when play ended three overs short because of fading light.

Naved, who reached his 11th first-class century, smashed 15 fours and three sixes before his 130-ball innings was ended by promising paceman Uzair-ul-Haq via a return catch shortly before play was called off for the day.

Misbah, the 32-year-old with five Test caps to his credit, was nearing his 23rd century at this level. So far, he has struck 13 fours and one six in a stay 226 minutes during which he negotiated 195 deliveries.

The visitors were also served well by openers Imran Ali (46 off 71 balls, six fours and one six) and Asif Hussain (33) after Karachi Harbour added just 43 runs to their overnight score of 323 for six.

Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria, leading Karachi Harbour in this game, was unlucky not to pick a wicket as he toiled through 23 overs for 80 runs.

Earlier, pacer Asad Ali finished with five for 122 after taking two more wickets this morning. Medium-pacer Ahmed Hayat took three for 59.
