GUJRANWALA, Feb 16: More than 80 per cent policemen in the Gujranwala region would suffer due to ban on postings in their home districts imposed by the Punjab chief minister, it was learnt on Friday.

Sources said that chief minister’s orders, applicable on DSPs, SHOs and ASIs, have been received in the regional and city police offices. They said the lists of such officials were being prepared to transfer them.

As many as 625 officials of the rank of ASI to inspector have been working in the district and about 1,247 in the range comprising Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal and Hafizabad districts. Most of them belonged to Gujranwala.

Sources said the transfer of these police officials would start shortly.

POLICE CHIEF: The newly-appointed city police officer, additional IG Asif Nawaz Warriach, has expressed his resolve to check street crime.

Speaking at his meeting in his office here on Friday, he said TV cameras would be installed at crowded areas besides increasing patrolling.

He said Mohafiz Squad, Rescue-15 and Elite Force should work jointly as a team.

DIG (operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti told the meeting that a refresher course for policemen who had come from the police constabulary was being started while performance of investigation wing was also being improved.

Area SPs, DSPs, SHOs and other senior officers of the district attended the meeting.

BEATEN UP: Fifteen people allegedly beat up a police party and freed a man from its custody in Hamidpur Kalan village, Wahando, on Friday.

Led by ASIs Babar and Yousaf, the team arrested Farman Yousaf on the charge of possessing an illicit 222-bore rifle.

Later, another police party raided the village and arrested all the attackers.

SHOT DEAD: Two brothers were shot dead by their rivals over an agricultural land dispute in Ladhoywala Warriach village on Thursday night.

Sarfraz and Riasat Ali were present in their house when Munir Ahmed came there alongwith his accomplices. He opened fire on them following an exchange of hot words and fled.
