GUJAR KHAN, Oct 19: An assistant superintendent and a sub-inspector of Gujar Khan police died in a road accident on Friday.
ASP Dr Syed Hassan Raza and sub-inspector Asghar Rasool were on their way to Mandra in a car (RIW-7767) when their vehicle collided with a speeding Toyota Hi-Lux pick-up coming from the opposite direction around 12:45pm near Sawar Mohammad Shaheed stadium.
The two policemen died on the spot, while the pick-up driver, Haji Nawaz, and his companion, Syed Abdullah Shah, were seriously injured.
The local police, on hearing about the accident, arrived at the spot immediately and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, Rawalpindi.
Later, ASP Raza’s body was brought to Islamabad and buried at CDA graveyard.
His funeral prayers were attended by a large number of notables from Gujar Khan and high-ups of Islamabad and Punjab police who had gathered at his residence in street No 27, F-11/2.
Besides police officials, political figures, including former senate chairman Waseem Sajjad, Agha Murtaza Poya, District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani and Tehsil Nazim Raja Sultan Kiani, attended the funeral prayers.
The body of SI Rasool was sent to Mandi Bahauddin.
ASP Raza hailed from Mustafabad village, Okara district. His parents are residing in Islamabad.
Mr Raza was the only son of Syed Azizul Hassan, a prominent figure of Okara district. He was a conscientious officer.
