Suspected suicide bombers arrested

HYDERABAD, Feb 20: Police arrested two suspected suicide bombers in the Baldia police station area on Tuesday.

Briefing reporters, DSP CID (Hyderabad unit) Hyder Bux Khoso identified the two as Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Shoaib Khan. Two hand grenades, two pistols, chemical bottles, explosive material, five kilogrammes of ball-bearings, two batteries and two table watches were seized during the operation.

The police official said that they had been tipped off about the arrival of a group of suicide bombers and officials had been deputed for surveillance in the by-pass area and in Jamshoro.

On Tuesday, one of the law-enforcement teams ordered seven people to stop on the Diplai-Memon Colony link road. He said that five of them had fled towards the Hur Camp while two had been arrested. They had been handed over to the CID, Karachi, for interrogation.

He said that it was learnt during initial questioning that they had been brought to Hyderabad by their gang leader and that they had been trained in Waziristan. He alleged that they were members of a banned outfit, Harkatul Mujahideen.
