KARACHI, Feb 25: Pakistan junior international Syed Zuhair Raza ended the Sindh ranking tennis tournament on promising note by capturing a double crown — third of his career — on the penultimate day at CDGK sports complex on Sunday.

Zuhair, 14, disposed off Abdul Rehman 6-3, 6-1 for the U-17 crown and soon afterwards edge past Mustafa Zaidi 6-4, 6-3 to pick up the U-15 title and complete the feat.

Earlier, he stormed in the U-15 final by getting the better of Hashim Khan 6-4, 6-0 in the morning.

Groomed by coach, Saeed Ahmed, he topped National U-13 ranking last year by remaining undefeated in all the competitions he had entered.

Abdul Rehman made it to the juniors U-17 final at the expense of another talented player Nasir Mushtaq who could not turn up as he developed cramps while playing men’s singles pre-final against Jalil Khan on Saturday.

Seher Khwaja, former National hard court champion, did not lack behind and matched Zuhair’s feat pocketing ladies singles and doubles. Her victim in the singles final was Eman Malik who lost 1-6, 3-6. In doubles, the two combined together to register 6-0, 6-0 victory over Uzma Zikria/Aliya Hai.

Adil Kohari avenged his last month’s defeat when he overcame a stiff challenge from Nameer Shamsi by registering 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win to grab the boys U-13 trophy. The latter had won the U-13 title in a National ranking tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 win over the former only recently at the same venue.

Top ranked Aqeel Khan whipped younger brother Yasir Khan 6-1, 6-3 without facing much resistance to set a date with Jalil Khan for Monday’s final.
