FAISALABAD, Feb 28: The city district council has passed a unanimous resolution to purchase security equipment worth Rs2 million in view of threats of suicide bombings.
The resolution was adopted in the meeting held on Wednesday with convener Mian Amjad Yasin in the chair.
The convener told the house that the Punjab government had directed tightening of security and the City District Government Faisalabad (CDG-F) had decided to purchase modern gadgets.
Addressing the council meeting, the district nazim said a bench of the Lahore High Court would be set up here and efforts would be made to get Rs87 billion in the next four years.
The president had announced Rs5 billion and the chief minister earmarked Rs11 billion for development works in the district, he added.
He said all members would be given funds for development at union council level.
A number of members also spoke of the problems being faced by their respective localities.
Killed: A 70-year-old man was shot dead on Wednesday by robbers in Muslim Town near the Sargodha Road police station.
Habibullah of Shahpur was on his way home when two motorcyclists intercepted him and tried to snatch Rs70,000 the old man was carrying. On resistance, they fired and killed him on the spot.
Unidentified men axed to death a man in Chak 85-JB, Dijkot.
His family and neighbours said that Tufail was killed by dacoits while police suspected that the incident was the outcome of enmity.
Police are investigating.
EXECUTED: The killer of a boy was executed in the district jail on Wednesday.
Malik Zahid Iqbal of Nisar Colony kidnapped Waqas for Rs300,000 ransom about five years ago. He killed the boy when his parents failed to pay the money.
An anti-terrorism court sentenced him to death.
