Decapitated body found

Published March 1, 2007

TANK, Feb 28: Decapitated body of a man stuffed in a sack was found near Jandola in the Tank frontier region on Tuesday. A note in Urdu was stuck to the bag, identifying the man as Akhtar Usmani, an Afghan teacher at a North Waziristan seminary, and saying that his death “is a result of spying for Americans”.

The severed head was also lying nearby. The killers had written the word munafiq i.e. hypocrite across the forehead with a black marker.

The remains were kept at the Tehsil Office in Jandola for identification and were later shifted to the Tank Municipal Committee Office. If nobody claims the body, it will be buried here. Since nobody came forward to claim the body till our going to the press, it remained unconfirmed whether or not the name on the note stuck to the sack was correct.
