KARACHI, March 2: Hosts Karachi University (KU) and Sir Syed University (SSU) chalked up convincing victories over their opponents in the Inter-University basketball championship at KPT gymnasium on Friday.

The KU outplayed Aga Khan University (AKU) 63-39 after enjoying 32-13 lead at breather. This was AKU’s second defeat in as many days and they are now out of the race.

Though small in heights the KU cagers were technically superior in skills of the game and dominated the play right from the word go. On the other hand, their tall and athletic built opponents failed to utilise the height advantage.

Team captain, Asad Iqbal, caught the eye with an individual score of 21 consisting of six three pointers. He was ably supported by Syed Adnan (15) and M. Shabbar (13).

For the losers, Umer Aziz Bhatti finished in double figures (10) followed by Saad Ajmal (9) and Abdullah Waheed (5).

The SSU who outwitted AKU 61-59 the other day continued their giant killing run beating Hamdard University (HU) 52-8 in one-sided match. Rakay (18), Bilal Ahmed (10), Sajjad Ali (6) and Agha M. Ibrahim (4) were the main scorers. Rasheed and Mudassar scored four apiece for losers.

However, soon after the final manager HU Jamshed lodged an official protest against some players of SSU who are not their bonafide students.

The tournament committee has asked SSU official to produce proper documents at the KU gymnasium on Saturday at 10am failing which their team will be scratched.
