MULTAN, March 3: The district bar association on Saturday boycotted the courts to protest the Friday’s bomb blast that claimed the lives of three people and injured 10 others, including an anti-terrorism court judge, who was the main target.
An emergency meeting of the High Court Bar Association was held here which was presided over by bar president Muhammad Mehmood Ashraf Khan.
The meeting condemned the attack on ATC judge Bashir Ahmed Bhatti. They said although Multan had become a center of terrorist activities and some sensitive cases were under hearing here, the administration did not take any solid steps for the security of judges.
While Chehliyak police instituted an FIR against unidentified terrorists under sections 302, 324, 109/34, 427, 7 ATA 120, and Explosive Act 1908 late on Friday night. While police have arrested over 25 people from different areas.
SAHIWAL: Lawyers boycotted courts on Saturday in protest against the Multan bomb blast in which three people were killed and many others, including a judge, were injured.
Addressing a gathering of lawyers, district bar association president Sheikh Muhammad Usman and Punjab bar council member Muhammad Afzal strongly condemned the bomb blast and expressed their grave concern over the deteriorating law and order in the country.
They attributed the blast as failure of the government and demanded immediate announcement of elections in the larger interest of the country.
The lawyers demanded arrest of the accused at the earliest.
GUJRANWALA: The District Bar Association boycotted court proceedings in protest against a cycle-bomb attack in Multan court and demanded that the government and police provide protection to judges and lawyers. A meeting of lawyers presided over by Bar President Ilyas Rehan condemned the attack on a judge in Multan in which three policemen were killed.
MUZAFFARGARH: Lawyers observed a strike and boycotted court proceedings on Saturday in protest against an attack on an anti-terrorism court judge in Multan on Friday.
A roadside bomb targeted Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Bashir Ahmed Bhatti that left three people dead and eight injured. Lawyers wore black armbands and held a meeting at the bar room in which they condemned the attack and prayed for those who were killed in the blast.
The meeting which was held under the chair of District Bar Association President Zubaidul Islam Sherwani passed a resolution demanding that the government protect lawyers and judges in the country.
VEHARI: The district bar association observed a complete strike and did not appear in any court. Bar president Rana Sajid and other office-bearers demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the attack on judges.
KASUR: Lawyers boycotted the courts in Kasur, Chunian and Pattoki.
At a meeting held in a Kasur bar auditorium, DBA president Chaudhry Munir Ahmed criticized the government for its failure to provide security to judges and lawyers.
