KARACHI, March 3: Hosts Karachi University (KU) won the Inter-University zone ‘F’ basketball qualifiers after Sir Syed University (SSU) failed to produce original record of some players against whom the protest were made and Aga Khan University (AKU) did not turn up on Saturday following two defeats.
Hamdard University (HU), the fourth team that featured in the single league competition, had lodged an official protest against some players who were not bonafide students and fielded by SSU on Friday.
The AKU who was supposed to play HU in their last match on Saturday opted to stay away following two defeats. Similarly, the KU – SSU match could not be played as the latter was scratched.
The KU who on Friday whipped AKU 63-39 notched up second win beating HU 60-11 in an unscheduled one-sided match. Syed Adnan Ali top scored with 28 followed by M. Haroon (8) and Idrees Sadiq (5).
The KU will now travel to Sargodha where the final round begins from March 12.
Meanwhile, local cagers drew the attention of chief guest Sindh Sports Minister, Qamar Mansoor, to the step-motherly treatment meted out to the game by the POA for not including it in the 30th National Games.
The players urged the Minister to at least made it part of the spectacle as demonstration sports like some other disciplines as the sport has a large following across the country.
