KARACHI, March 3: Out of form Farhan Mirza, a former national champion, continued to be on the receiving end as he suffered second consecutive defeat in the 32nd National snooker championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Saturday.

After going down to veteran Mohammad Yousuf 2-4 in the opener in group ‘B’, he tasted yet another straight defeat at the hands of Punjab’s Imran Qamar. The latter won 58-27, 76-22, 69-47 and 61-30.

Ninth seed Abu Saim progressed with his winning stride when he conjured up 4-2 win against Kamran Razzak. His victim on the opening day was NWFP qualifier Hameedullah. Saim won the battle 21-62, 80-28, 74-39, 32-52, 79-8 and 68-21.

Punjab qualifier Atif Mughal who toppled fifth seed Rambel Gul 4-3 on Thursday put up another dazzling performance by disposing off 12th seed Syed Mesam Zaidi by the identical margin in group ‘E’. Final scores were 87-51, 72-45, 70-50, 34-74, 47-52, 44-55 and 46-37.

Atif’s shining performance has put him in a better position to qualify for the knock-out stage.
