PESHAWAR, March 8: Councillors from various union councils of the Charsadda district held a demonstration on Thursday in protest against the government’s failure to pay them monthly honorarium.
They also called for release of Rs100 million announced by President Musharraf for various development schemes in the district.
The demonstration was organised by the Charsadda Councillors Ittehad. Abdul Hameed led the protestors.
The councillors, including men and women, gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club and raised slogans against what they called discrimination of nazims against them.
They accused nazims of ignoring them and said that they were not invited to meetings of union councils.
They said that projects were being launched without their consent which they said had created unrest among them.
They said that in spite of President Musharraf’s directive to four provincial governments for payment of monthly honorarium to councillors, nothing has been done in this regard.
They demanded that Rs2,000 per month honorarium should be paid to them.
They said that the indifference of nazims had multiplied the problems of people.
