ATTOCK, March 9: District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Mohammad Younus has disposed of the kidnapping case of Dr Inamullah after the SHO of the city police station stated that neither the local police had arrested him nor were they aware of his whereabouts.

The district judge, in a short verdict, said this court could exercise powers within the sessions division Attock, and the petitioner had not been able to point out any place within the court’s jurisdiction where Dr Inamullah was detained. If the detainee had been shifted from the district by an agency, the petitioners might seek proper remedy from the superior courts.

However admittedly, no agency is above the law and has to proceed according to the law of the land, the court said. Earlier, SHO city police Inspector Abdul Hafeez Olukh appeared before the court and explained that no police official had gone to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Attock, and the police department had no double cabin vehicle in which Dr Inamullah was alleged to have been taken away.

The SHO emphatically denied having any knowledge about the doctor as he was on duty in Kunda village on the eve of the president’s visit. The district judge last Wednesday directed the DPO Attock and SHO city police (respondents) to appear before the court and explain their position on a complaint filed by Haji Mohammad Khurshid, the victim’s father, and Dr Mohammad Ali Asghar, general secretary of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Attock district.

The petitioners, in a joint complaint filed through Mazhar Masood advocate and Khalil Akhtar advocate, expressed their suspicion that some officials of intelligence agencies travelling on a double-cabin jeep allegedly picked up Dr Inamullah with the help of a police official from the outside the DHQ hospital, Attock, last Friday and took him to some unknown place. They claimed that the local police were aware of the incident.

The matter was immediately reported to the city police Attock but they did not take any action, the petitioners alleged.

They said the court should take legal action in this regard as it was the worst kind of state terrorism and also a human rights violation.

Talking to local mediapersons outside the district court, the victim’s father, Haji Khurshid, and brother Dr Attaullah said they would move the Lahore High Court or apex court after consulting their counsels.

PMA’s PROTEST RALLY: The PMA Attock as well as family members of Dr Inamullah have announced to hold a peaceful protest rally on Monday to draw the attention of senior government authorities and public forums towards Dr Inamullah’s case.
