LAHORE, March 11: Fancied bay horse, Intikhab-e-Bhakkar, stormed home to win the Mohy-ud-Din Mohammad Aurangzeb Alamgir Cup run over 1300m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Midway through the races it started drizzling, which continued throughout the proceedings turning it into a balmy Sunday.

The 40 to 100 favourite, Intikhab-e-Bhakkar, piloted confidently by the jockey Shahid Rehman beat Trump Coup by about five lengths. Red Hot Fire and Cross Ruff completed the frame among 14 runners.

This success gave Shahid Rehman a grand double when earlier in the second race he had partnered bay filly Mama Mia, owned by Syed Pervez Hussain Shah, to a fluent victory.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were in a punishing mood on Sunday.

They fined rupees 15,000 to trainer Choudhry Khurram Hussain and suspended riding boy Khalid for two weeks alongwith a fine of rupees 5000 for in and out running of colt Fearless Boy, who ran off the board in his previous outing but won the opener on Sunday.

They also suspended riding boy Pervez Bhatti for three months for his unsatisfactory riding on Re Born in the fourth race. They also stood down riding boy Sajjad Hussain for not allowing his mount Kind Minister to run on merit in the same race.

Three favourites won in a card of six events, to share the day's proceedings equally between favourite backers and the turf accountants.
