HYDERABAD, March 15: People’s Party Parliamentarians leader Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that action against the chief justice of Pakistan and confinement of his family members in his house were unconstitutional and immoral acts.
Speaking at a PPP workers convention in Tando Mohammad Khan on Wednesday evening, the provincial chief of the party, said if the chief justice was not secure, how could a common man could feel safe and secure in the country.
He said the only fault of the chief justice was that he had given a landmark judgment in the Pakistan Steel Mills case which was disliked by the establishment.
He said the chief justice had taken serious action in the case of enforced disappearances of many political activists, which added to the ire of the government. Mr Shah said like late General Ziaul Haq, President Gen Pervez Musharraf had also given nothing to the people except lawlessness, unemployment and insecurity. He said due to rampant terrorist activities, the people of the country were living in a state of uncertainty.
He said a high level meeting of the PPP was being held in Islamabad to chalk out future course of action on all the burning issues, specially the issue of the reinstatement of the chief justice.
He expressed the hope that during the current year, the people would get rid of the military rulers, and urged the party workers to organise the party on a sound footing and attend the death anniversary of executed prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Larkana in a big number.
He said the PPP was one of the major political parties of the country which was struggling for restoration of real democracy and added the current year was the year of general elections which would see the return of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto to her motherland.
Speaking on the occasion, the district president of the party, Haji Mohammad Amin Lakho, severely criticized the Sindh chief minister and said that Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim had broken all previous records of destroying democratic norms.
MPA Ghulam Qadir Soomro, Syed Mohsin Shah Bukhari, Dr Mahesh Malani, Dr Karim Khwaja and PPP youth wing leader Aajiz Dhamrah also spoke at the convention.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah also presided over the PPP workers convention of Hyderabad district late in the night and a similar convention in Tando Allahyar on Thursday.
PPP SB: Pakistan People’s Party (Shaheed Bhutto) leader Meenhoon Khan Rind has said that action against the chief justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan was illegal and unconstitutional.
He was speaking to party workers at a gathering held at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday to mark the founding day of the PPP-SB.
He said his party would stage protest demonstrations throughout Sindh on March 17 to condemn the action against the chief justice. He also condemned police violence against lawyers. Mr Rind directed the party workers to launch a consistent campaign for fresh membership of the party.
He further directed the party workers to attend the death anniversary of late Z. A. Bhutto in Larkana on April 4 in a large number.
Comrade Ali Mohammad Jamali, Peeral Majidano, Zulfiqar Jamali, Rasheed Samoon and others also spoke on the occasion.
JSSF DEMO: A large number of Jeay Sindh Students’ Federation activists from the Government Technical College staged demonstrations at the college gate and outside the press club on Thursday to protest against the vice-chancellor of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology.
Speaking on the occasion, JSSF General Secretary Sooriah Sindhi alleged that the vice chancellor had destroyed the university and failed to resolve the problems of the students. He demanded his immediate removal.
He further demanded that the president of the JSSF, Kehar Ansari should be released.
