DADU, March 16: Federal Minister for Local Government Justice (Rtd) Abdul Razzaq Thaheem on Friday warned of action against the government officers who did not implement the resolutions passed by district councils.

Mr Thaheem said while speaking to nazims, naib nazims and councillors at the district council hall that the officials of finance department were bound to release budget to the council's members for carrying out development schemes passed by council. If the department delayed release of budget to the council members and union council the EDO of finance would be held responsible, he warned.

He said that Gender Justice and Anjuman Committees were working under the Local Government Ordinance at union council level in the districts of Shikarpur and Dadu. Women’s representation on the committees had been ensured, he added.

The committees resolved 30 of 34 cases of women sent to them by lower courts in the two districts with only four cases pending disposal, he said and assured that the government would implement the committees’ decisions. He announced Rs1,000 monthly allowance for the secretary of every union council along with furniture and stationery for the offices of Gender Justice Committees and Rs5,000 monthly for local government support officer.

He said that 100 schools were being run through funds from Baitul Maal in the province and treatment would be provided to patients of hepatitis-B and C and other diseases from the funds of Baitul Maal.

About zakat funds he said that the federal government had received many complaints about unfair distribution of zakat funds from many districts of the province.

The federal government had formed a committee to look into the issue and action would be taken against the officials and chairmen of zakat committees found involved in the funds’ misappropriation.

Earlier, the minister held a meeting with the officers of federal and provincial government.
